December 20, 2011, was a big day for the Simon Youth Dr. Paul L. Kelley Volunteer Academy. The school, which is located in the Knoxville Center and operates in partnership between Simon Youth Foundation and Knox County Schools, celebrated its 2011 mid-term commencement ceremony, honoring 36 new graduates.
What's more, this latest group of diploma-earning students brought the school's total number of graduates to 106 since the it was opened in the fall of 2010.
The 100th graduate milestone was the talk of Knoxville, Tenn., where local television news and radio news stations reported on the event.
On Knoxville television, NBC News affiliate WBIR-TV Channel 10 and reporter Steve Butera featured an interview with Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre.
Knoxville's local ABC News affiliate WATE-TV Channel 6 and reporter Samantha Saracino talked to students about how the Academy made a difference in their life.
